Just vote! It was tougher back in the day.
There are races for six Boulder County elected positions this year for which there is only one candidate, and they’re all from the Democratic Party. Republicans normally have more candidates running for countywide office, but they face an uphill battle due to voter registration statistics, and it is hard work to run for office whether one winds up winning or losing.
This year’s uncontested candidates, along with their offices and websites, are:
- Boulder County Clerk and Recorder, Molly Fitzpatrick, https://www.mollyfitzpatrick.org/
- Boulder County Treasurer, Paul Weissmann, https://bouldercounty.gov/government/elected-officials/treasurer/
- Boulder County Assessor, Cynthia Braddock, https://www.cynthiabraddock.org/
- Boulder County Sheriff, Curtis Johnson, https://www.johnsonforboco.com/
- Boulder County Surveyor, Lee Stadele, https://bouldercounty.gov/government/elected-officials/surveyor/
- Boulder County Coroner, Emma Hall, https://bouldercounty.gov/government/elected-officials/coroner/
I do not plan to write anything of substance about these races since they are uncontested. Obviously, do your own research, or readers might be interested in visiting the candidate websites to learn more about who will be serving in these offices.
Voters do have the perfectly legal options of either voting for all of these candidates, picking or choosing where to vote or not to vote, or leaving all of these races blank on the ballot. Of the six candidates, only Curtis Johnson is not an incumbent. Each race is for a four-year term.
