Boulder Valley School District Board of Education

Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) Board of Education candidates run for office in the geographic district in which they live, but all voters in BVSD can vote for one candidate from each district that has a race on the ballot. Those who win will earn four-year terms, and elected Board members are limited to two terms. There are races in three BVSD districts in 2023. I’m including the candidate’s district in the titles below, and will include a basic map of the district with each questionnaire.

There are four total candidates running between the three districts this year. As of early October, not all candidates have returned questionnaires, but I will post the rest as soon as possible after receiving them.

For a brief editor’s note – I tried with my questioning to gather candidate opinions on a decent cross-section of top “protein-and-potatoes” basic issues and current hot-button issues. The questions I have highlighted in bold-face on the questionnaires I posted are for the most part a little shorter than what I sent the candidates. I figured readers would rather spend more time with the candidate responses than with my questions.

As a person who has spent a fair amount of time studying Colorado education policy, and who has followed recent state and national news regarding what’s going on in school boards, I feel school board races deserve greater attention than they typically get. I started adding BVSD questionnaires to my voter guides in 2021, and I hope readers will find this year’s questionnaire responses useful in making vitally important decisions!
